STEP 1: Send the following email to your team members:
Having the right resources to support achieving our goals and work priorities is critical to the team’s overall success. Therefore, it is important that I understand the resources that would help you to be successful in your job.
To learn what would help you, I’d like each of you to create a resource “Wish List”. Please take a few moments and identify the resources you’d love to have in your job. Your “Wish List” may contain:
- Resources you need to successfully deliver your goals and work priorities
- Resources that can help you to improve your overall productivity
- Resources that would make your job much easier
Once you provide your “Wish List” to me, I will schedule some time with you to review your list and talk about the next steps we need to take.
STEP 2: Meet with each team member to review their “Wish List” and perform the following:
- Discuss how each resource would help the team member
- Outline what it will take to obtain the resource
- Determine if the resource can be acquired, or if the request is not realistic at this time
- Identify the next steps both you and the team member must take
Note: Try to acquire at least one of the resources from the “Wish List” for each team member within the next 12 months. If a “Wish List” resource can not be obtained, work with the team member to find alternative solutions to help the team member achieve success in their role.
