Time: 30 Minutes
STEP 1: Schedule a 15 to 20 minute discussion with your team members.
STEP 2: During the discussion, ask the following questions to learn about their “work-world”:
- Who really helps and hinders your progress?
- What changes need to happen in your “work-world” to increase your effectiveness? (e.g., the technology you use, the information you receive)
- What are the best and worst parts of your “work-world”?
- What are your recent achievements and successes?
- What do you need from me in order to be successful?
Be curious and actively listen to your employee’s words and messages “behind the words”. You should walk away with a sense of what it’s really like to spend a day “in their shoes”.
STEP 3: Based on your discussion, identify the actions you can take to help the team member be successful in his or her role.
