SOLUTION:

Individual SMART Objectives 

PURPOSE: Having created performance objectives, work with your team members to increase accountability to ensure the team member’s objectives are SMART.

Time: 1 Hour 

STEP 1: Give team members the Individual SMART Objectives Worksheet and describe the following process:

  1. Team members will work on the worksheet to outline what they must deliver in the next year.
  2. Using the instructions on the worksheet, each objective must meet the SMART criteria.

STEP 2: Schedule a time to meet with each team member or have peers work together to help each other shape up the objectives. 

STEP 3: During the meeting perform the following:

  • Review the team member’s SMART objectives and determine if the objectives are the right ones based on the individual’s role. Some objectives may need to be modified or deleted, or you may want to add additional deliverables.
  • Shape up the objectives so that each meets the SMART criteria. 

STEP 4: Identify and share the actions you can take to help the team member successfully achieve his or her objectives.

STEP 5: Periodically touch base with your team member to review his or her objectives and make any necessary upgrades to reflect changing team and business priorities.
