SOLUTION:

Building Work Relationships

PURPOSE: Evaluate your current work relationships and select the relationships you’d like to build.

Time: < 1 Hour

STEP 1: Using the Work Relationship Grid, outline your current work relationships.  Capture the names of people you work around or interact with – make sure to capture all individuals you want to build a strong relationship with.  Consider the following categories: “Day-To-Day Resources” + “Key Players” + “Top Talent”

STEP 2: Categorize the “current level of work relationship” you have with each person.

STEP 3: Outline the “DESIRED LEVEL” of work relationship.  All work relationships need to be somewhere between Level 2 and Level 5.  Utilize the following scale to assess the relationship level:

STEP 4: Select the work relationships to build - indicate with an “X”.  NOTE: You will need to maintain all the relationships at their current level of performance AND select a few work relationships to increase.

STEP 5: Outline the “Critical Actions” you will take to build or maintain the relationship. Consider what has happened so far to create the current level of work relationship... does something need to be discussed?  Does something need to be done?  What can you do to get the relationship moving in the right direction?  Consider the “Possible ACTIONS” as you think about what to do next.

STEP 6: CHECK the results in 60 days. Were you able to increase the work relationship level? Assess which actions made a difference on the work relationship.  Identify future actions to build other work relationships.
