PURPOSEClearly understand the variables impacting your employee’s performance and desire to stay.

Time: 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Give your employee the Most Critical to Me Worksheet. Ask the team member to review the items in each area (Work, Work Environment, and Organization) and select up to 2 items from each area that are “most critical” to helping the team member engage and perform at a high level, and create a place they will want to stay.

When selecting what’s “most critical”, the employee should think about the following:

  • Think about what is “most critical” to engaging you to perform at your highest levels and/or creates a work situation where you want to stay.
  • This is 100% about what is “most critical” to engaging and retaining you no matter where you work.
  • It is important to note this is NOT an evaluation of your current work situation. It does not matter if the item is “going well” for you or if it’s “not happening” at all.

STEP 2: Meet with your employee and review the selected “most critical” items. Ask the team member to discuss why these items are “most critical” to engaging and retaining them.

STEP 3: Spend some time outlining what actions you and the employee can take to ensure these “most critical” needs are met and become a strength in the team member’s work situation.
