Time: 1 Hour
STEP 1: Think about each of your team members and create a list of their “best work”. Use the following questions to help identify the team member’s “best work”.
- What work does the team member enjoy doing and do well?
- What work does the team member deliver with ease, speed, and at a high level of quality?
- What work is the team member known for?
- What type of work will cause the team member to always deliver consistent, high levels of performance?
STEP 2: Meet with each team member to review the team member’s “best work” list. Be sure to discuss the following:
- Why you think this is the team member’s “best work”
- The impact the “best work” creates for the team member and the team
- “Best work” items the team member would like to add, modify, or delete from the list
- The amount of time the team member is able to spend doing his or her “best work”
STEP 3: Together, identify actions both you and the team member can take in order to increase or maintain the amount of time the team member spends performing their “best work”.
Note: Peers can also use this process to reinforce what other team members do best.
