Empowerment Actions

PURPOSE: Meet with your team members to learn about their “work-world”, and identify what you can do to help them be successful. 

Time: 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Schedule a 15 to 20 minute discussion with your team members.

STEP 2: During the discussion, ask the following questions to learn about their “work-world”:

  1. Who really helps and hinders your progress?
  2. What changes need to happen in your “work-world” to increase your effectiveness? (e.g., the technology you use, the information you receive)
  3. What are the best and worst parts of your “work-world”?
  4. What are your recent achievements and successes?
  5. What do you need from me in order to be successful?

Be curious and actively listen to your employee’s words and messages “behind the words”. You should walk away with a sense of what it’s really like to spend a day “in their shoes”.

STEP 3: Based on your discussion, identify the actions you can take to help the team member be successful in their role.
