STEP 1: Learn how to say “No” without feelings of guilt. Don’t try to do everything for the people in your life. Simply saying “No” will free up some of your time and the person who asked you will find someone else to help them. You can’t take responsibility all the time.
STEP 2: Take a few minutes today and make a list of the items in your life that are draining and distracting you from working and accomplishing great things in your life. What are you tolerating in your life that is draining you? Now think through how you can free yourself from doing them. If necessary, recruit a friend to brainstorm with.
STEP 3: Decide what you need to do for yourself – how long it will take, what arrangements need to be made in order to make it happen, what you need to do to prepare, etc. It may be as simple as throwing a workout bag in the car or it may take more planning like finding childcare and a hotel for the weekend. You are the only one who knows what you truly need.
STEP 4: Make it happen. Pack it, schedule it, arrange it, buy-it. You need to take care of yourself and you are always worth it.
STEP 5: Pay attention to what you watch, listen to, and read…Be selective and look to build yourself up and nourish your spirit, not “clutter your mind.” You will feel less stressed and be in a better state of mind in order to excel in your life, and your confidence will improve too. When you are feeling great, you’ll be able to better support your family and friends. Be determined to make yourself a priority this year AND for the rest of your life.
