Time: 30 Minutes - 1 Hour
STEP 1: Decide what you want to read. Are you struggling with something? Are you trying to learn something new? Do you want to improve yourself and/or your circumstances or watch less TV? Maybe you want to read the Bible or snuggle up with a good mystery novel. Whatever it is, determine what you’d like to read and what you hope to gain from it.
STEP 2: Find a comfy chair and, every day for 20-30 minutes, read something that interests you. Reading during a specific time of day helps you build in the time to make it happen. After doing so for a number of days, you will likely recognize that you are looking forward to that brief window of time for yourself. Many people enjoy reading just before they go to bed since they are relaxed and still.
STEP 3: If you are enjoying your newfound reading time, consider increasing the time to 40-45 minutes next week. Are you learning and growing? Has it become a good habit? If so, keep it up!
STEP 4: Once you are close to completing your book, find the next one you’re going to read, so you have something to look forward to. You might also reward yourself for being disciplined enough to take 20-30 minutes to read each day and complete a book. That’s a great feeling. Set a goal for the amount of books read by year end.
