PURPOSE: Facilitate or ask your manager to lead a team discussion regarding what organization quality, issue, product, or idea generates excitement for each team member.

Time: < 1 Hour  

STEP 1: Speak with your supervisor and/or HR department about what the company is doing in the area of community outreach. Identify which causes align with your interest and passion. Both small and large companies have traditionally been actively involved in philanthropy. See if your organization offers employees a number of volunteer hours per month.

STEP 2: Evaluate the opportunities available and begin the application process to participate. If you are inspired, consider taking a more active or leadership role. This can help you become more known and valuable within the organization…creating, future opportunities for growth.

STEP 3: Speak with other employees who are already participating and/or knowledgeable about the volunteering options to see how others feel about the ins and outs of the organizations/causes supported and how your company treats them as volunteers.

STEP 4: Add your volunteer time to your resume and LinkedIn profile – a survey showed 82% of hiring managers stated that they like to pick resumes with volunteer experience.
