Love-To-Do Work

PURPOSE: Look for ways to perform your “love-to-do” work. We all have areas of our jobs that we love and want to do more of in our role. Re-engage by looking at how you can perform more of the work you love to do.

Time: < 1 Hour

STEP 1: Using the Love-to-Do Work worksheet, identify your top 3 “love-to-do” work actions. This work should be the projects, assignments, tasks, challenges, etc., that create energy and excitement within your day or work-week. If you could design a “dream job”, these work actions would be what you would spend most of your time doing.

STEP 2: With your manager or a co-worker you trust, discuss each “love-to-do” work action and identify the current projects, initiatives, and/or responsibilities within the team or organization that would tap into the “love-to-do” work action.

STEP 3: Determine what steps you can take to increase your “love-to-do” work. Can you change projects, assignments, work load, or responsibilities? Once next steps are determined, review the worksheet and your ideas with your manager.

STEP 4: Revisit the Love-to-Do Work plan to evaluate how well you have been able to apply your “love-to-do” work actions to various projects and initiatives within the team and/or the organization.

STEP 5: Determine if there are additional actions that must be taken to ensure that you are able to perform your “love-to-do” work. Retention of strong performers are key, so keep the lines of communication open with your manager and/or other senior leaders.
