STEP 1: Set a goal to take a break from bringing negativity inside your home for at least a month or longer. Sometimes watching scary movies, dramatic TV shows, or getting too bogged down in the negativity of the news can cause us to feel unsafe and/or insecure. Focus on instead comedies and limit the news or scary movies, especially anything that will get stuck on replay in your brain.
STEP 2: Look for other ways to limit negativity and increase positivity. Pick up a funny book, play a game, invite positive friends over, or declutter your home. If there is a relationship that is surrounded with toxicity or negativity, do your best to limit your time with this person or end the relationship. It is essential to be with people who will lift you up and support you, not bring you down or exude negativity.
STEP 3: Inform your loved ones that you are choosing to limit negativity and ask them to please watch any news/scary movies without you, or better yet, have them take up the positivity goal with you. This only brings more energy and feel good emotions into your home…who doesn’t want that? If there are people in your social networks who are constantly posting opinions/information about the news, or are posting negative articles, videos, etc., remove them from your network or hide them from your newsfeed. Take back control of what and who you see online since you can’t control what people choose to post.
STEP 4: Share on social media how this “negativity detox” changed your world for the better so others can learn from you and do the same. Pay it Forward and make this world a better place.
