PURPOSE: Being aware of what is going on in our world, from a health and nutrition perspective, will open your eyes to many ways to improve your health. 

Time: 2 Hours

STEP 1: Order, rent or download any of the following documentaries: Supersize Me, Fed Up, Overfed and Undernourished or the like. Supersize Me is probably the most well-known, but all of them discuss various topics leading to the same place. We need to know what we are eating and be very conscious about it!

STEP 2: Consider ordering or downloading any of the following documentaries to help you better understand how to make healthy food choices: Forks Over Knives, Food, Inc., What the Health, GMO OMG, Hungry for Change, or Cowspiracy.

STEP 3: Once you review some of these documentaries, you will have significantly more knowledge to help you make healthy decisions for you and your loved ones. If you prefer to read instead, Michael Pollan has written multiple non-fiction works that explore various aspects of food ranging from how it is mass-produced, consumed and our relationship with it. In Defense of Food, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and Food Rules are great places to start. The author has also done many interviews about his works and research in case you would prefer to ingest the information in an audio format.

STEP 4: Share what you learn with others. The more we know, the better prepared we are to make choices that will benefit our loved ones and us. Joining in on and contributing to the ongoing dialogue surrounding food and our relationships to it will help you to become more informed and critical of your both your food sources and how you obtain them.
