SOLUTION:

Don't Accept Your Own Excuses

PURPOSE: Rather than allowing yourself to ‘just take the day off…” break free from fearful or helpless thoughts and move towards action. An anonymous quote reads, "Indecision is the graveyard of good intention."

Time: < 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Recognize that the action itself is not what we fear – it is our thoughts that restrain us. Do you feel that fear, or a sense of helplessness stands in your way between where you are now and where you want to be? If so, ask yourself WHY. Asking WHY helps us get to the root of our fears and inaction. Take a moment to reflect on why you may be feeling the way you do.

STEP 2: Ask yourself the tough questions. Create a "why not?" list and ask yourself if the benefits outweigh these negative thoughts. Think about who and what may be holding you back from something you’d like to accomplish.  Continue to write down all of your thoughts.

STEP 3: Accept rational accountability. Decide to change your inaction and make yourself accountable for both your actions and inaction. We are equally responsible for what we do and don't do.

STEP 4: Follow your own advice. Look at the reasons of WHY that you have written down.  What needs to change in order for you to begin to take action?  Maybe you need to eliminate people from your life, maybe you need to change your mindset, or maybe you just need to take the first step of getting outside. Think, if you had a friend in the same situation, what would your advice to them be?  What would you suggest they do?

STEP 5: Always listen to your intuition. It is much easier to dish out advice to other than it is to take your own advice.  Take this time to recognize that unless you make the change on WHY something isn’t happening for you, nothing will change for you. If you have strong feelings, listen to them. We may not always get our decisions "right," but there is something empowering, beautiful and courageous about taking action. What are you waiting for?
