Time: 1 Hour
STEP 1: If you don’t have a primary doctor, ask for referrals from people you trust. Once you have someone in mind, call to schedule an annual appointment and let them know that you need to get blood work completed. They’ll likely ask you to fast before coming in, so you’ll want to be aware of what to do before your appointment.
STEP 2: Be aware of your family’s medical history and bring that information to the appointment. They will need to know your family’s history so they’ll know that you may be in a higher risk group for some diseases or disorders.
STEP 3: Bring a list of anything that has been bothering you and how long it has been an issue. Even if it seems small and insignificant, bring it to their attention. Don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed about your medical concerns—the more information you provide your doctor(s), the more they will be able to help you.
STEP 4: Get your blood work done. Based on your age and history, they may have some additional tests that they recommend you complete.
STEP 5: Once you get your blood work results back, discuss them with your doctor, along with any questions or concerns that you may have. The results can give you either peace or clarity regarding next steps. If supplements are suggested, do some research on side effects, contraindications or if they interfere with other medications or supplements you are taking. By doing this, you will be maintaining a close pulse on your health and can make any necessary adjustments to do the best for your body and mind.
