SOLUTION:

Do Nothing

PURPOSE: Let yourself just “do nothing” whether that means watching TV, lying in bed on a Saturday morning, sitting on a patio with a cup of coffee or glass of wine, or maybe going to a hotel for some peace and quiet and a good night’s sleep. Whatever it looks like to you, do it and not beat yourself up about it.

SOLUTION:

Time: 30 Minutes - 1 Hour

STEP 1: Determine when you can have some time to do nothing. When can you turn off your phone, not be available to anyone and just BE? Never is not an option.

STEP 2: Decide what you need and where you want to have your down time. Does this mean arranging childcare for the afternoon? Maybe it’s canceling plans with a friend or working through your lunch break in order to leave work early. Whatever the necessary steps are it’s important to allow yourself to do what is best for YOU.

STEP 3: When the time comes for you to do nothing, go to your getaway and just BE… whatever that looks like to you. Have a glass of wine, rent an old movie, take a nap, a bath, a walk, whatever YOU want. This is YOUR time.

STEP 4: If you have any guilty thoughts about taking this time for yourself, acknowledge them and push them aside. We need time to ourselves to clear our heads and minds and not be the go-to person for that evening or weekend. This does not make you a bad or selfish person—it’s important to remember to take care of yourself so that you are able to take care of others.
