PURPOSEEmployees cross-train on a skill, process, or capability that significantly contributes to the team’s success.

Time: < 1 Hour

STEP 1: Use the following process with your team members to identify a skill, process, or capability they will cross-train on.

  1. Discuss the team member’s current role with the team.
  2. Based on the team member’s role, identify a few processes or capabilities that if the team member were skilled in, would be beneficial for the team.
  3. identify the benefits that will be realized if the team member was cross-trained on this process or skill.
  4. Identify the individuals who could help cross-train the team member.

STEP 2: Determine the actions both you and the team member must take to begin the cross-training process.

STEP 3: In a few weeks, follow-up with team members to get an update on cross-training activities.
