STEP 1: Use the following process with your team members to identify a skill, process, or capability they will cross-train on.
- Discuss the team member’s current role with the team.
- Based on the team member’s role, identify a few processes or capabilities that if the team member were skilled in, would be beneficial for the team.
- identify the benefits that will be realized if the team member was cross-trained on this process or skill.
- Identify the individuals who could help cross-train the team member.
STEP 2: Determine the actions both you and the team member must take to begin the cross-training process.
STEP 3: In a few weeks, follow-up with team members to get an update on cross-training activities.
