Time:Â 30 Minutes - 1 HourÂ
Before the Meeting
STEP 1: Review each team members’ recent work via project updates or manager notes. List 1–2 specific contributions per individual that reflect their unique skills or perspectives (“Sarah’s data visualization clarified [project]”) in a spreadsheet.
STEP 2: Design a quarterly roundtable format (“Manager highlights 1 contribution per individual, team adds feedback”). Set guidelines for authenticity (“Focus on specific impact, avoid generic praise”). Schedule via Zoom or in-person and email invites: “Join our roundtable to celebrate team contributions.”
NOTE: Encourage each individual to come with a recognition bullet for someone else on the team to create a dialogue and connection amongst the team.Â
During the Meeting
STEP 3: Manager shares each individual’s contribution (“John’s creative approach to [task] saved time”), then open it up to the team to add comments or appreciation.Â
Ask each individual if they have anything they’d like to share with another individual after you (the manager) have recognized each person.Â
Then close with a group discussion on shared goals (10 minutes). Log feedback in the spreadsheet.
After the Meeting
STEP 4: Spend 15 minutes emailing the team a summary: “Thanks for celebrating [John’s contribution]; let’s apply [idea] to [project].”Â
