Time:Â 1 Hour
STEP 1: List the specific workload stressors (“Tight deadlines for [project],” “Multitasking across 3 tasks”) and their impact (“Stress level: 4/5”) in a spreadsheet. Note tasks that feel unmanageable (“Last-minute client revisions”).
STEP 2: Schedule a 30-minute meeting with your manager to pitch: “Can we have monthly check-ins to discuss workload and stress to ensure I perform effectively?”Â
STEP 3: Connect with your manager and share what you have noted in your spreadsheet.Â
“These [tasks] are causing stress; can we adjust [deadlines/priorities]?” Propose solutions (e.g., “Extend [deadline] by 2 days”) and log agreed actions (e.g., “Delegate [task] to [colleague]”).
NOTE: It’s important to openly share what you’re experiencing and feeling with your manager, so they can support you, and create solutions that allow you to perform effectively.Â
STEP 4: Spend time each week monitoring your stress levels and task progress (“Stress dropped to 2 after adjusting [task]”). Keep a log of your workload stress so you can continue to share updates with your manager.Â
