Time: 30 Minute set up - 15 Minute discussions

STEP 1: Create a log in a spreadsheet or app. List 3–5 current issues or opportunities. Include columns:

  1. Date, Issue/Opportunity (“Challenge with [project],” “Interest in [role]”).
  2. Impact (“Delays project,” “Aligns with career goals”).
  3. Desired Manager Input (e.g., “Feedback,” “Training options”). List 3–5 current issues or opportunities.

STEP 2: Rank items by urgency or impact (e.g., “Project delay is critical”). Highlight 1–2 to discuss with your manager first, noting why they need attention.

STEP 3: Schedule a 15-minute meeting to introduce the log, and then share 1-2 entries.

“I’ve created a log to track key issues and opportunities for our discussions.”

STEP 4: After each discussion, spend 10 minutes:

  • Updating the log with outcomes (“Manager suggested [training]”).
  • Sending a follow-up email: “Thanks for addressing [issue]. I’ll follow through by [date].” Complete actions by deadlines.
