Time:Â 30 Minute set up - 15 Minute discussionsÂ
STEP 1: Create a log in a spreadsheet or app. List 3–5 current issues or opportunities. Include columns:
- Date, Issue/Opportunity (“Challenge with [project],” “Interest in [role]”).
- Impact (“Delays project,” “Aligns with career goals”).
- Desired Manager Input (e.g., “Feedback,” “Training options”). List 3–5 current issues or opportunities.
STEP 2: Rank items by urgency or impact (e.g., “Project delay is critical”). Highlight 1–2 to discuss with your manager first, noting why they need attention.
STEP 3:Â Schedule a 15-minute meeting to introduce the log, and then share 1-2 entries.Â
“I’ve created a log to track key issues and opportunities for our discussions.”
STEP 4: After each discussion, spend 10 minutes:
- Updating the log with outcomes (“Manager suggested [training]”).
- Sending a follow-up email: “Thanks for addressing [issue]. I’ll follow through by [date].” Complete actions by deadlines.
