Time: 30-45 mins

STEP 1: Spend 15 minutes planning a 15–20-minute routine to mark the end of your workday and shift into personal time. The ritual should include calming activities that feel rewarding, such as:

  • Lighting a candle or using an essential oil diffuser with a relaxing scent.
  • Brewing a cup of herbal tea or enjoying a favorite non-work-related drink.
  • Writing a brief gratitude list (2–3 things I appreciated today) in a journal.
  • Doing a 5-minute stretch or gentle yoga sequence to release physical tension.

STEP 2: Identify a specific time to begin the ritual each weekday (6:30 PM, after my workday ends). Add it to your calendar as a recurring event labeled “Evening Transition” to reinforce the habit.

STEP 3: Create a small, inviting area in your home for the ritual, separate from your work environment. For example:

  • Use a cozy corner with a comfortable chair, soft lighting, or a favorite blanket.
  • Keep ritual items (journal, tea, candle) in a basket or on a shelf for easy access.
  • Ensure this space is free of work devices (laptop, work phone) to avoid distractions.

STEP 4: Before starting the ritual, turn off or silence work-related notifications on your phone and computer. Store work devices in a designated spot (a drawer or another room) to create a physical boundary. If needed, use a personal device for music or guided relaxation, ensuring work apps are inaccessible.Â
