STEP 1Schedule a time to meet with each of your team members.

STEP 2: Outline what the employee must do and achieve to make a difference in their performance evaluation and possibly impact future merit increases.

STEP 3: During the meeting, discuss the following with the employee:

  • An understanding that pay opportunities are frequently on everyone’s mind. Share the actions they  can do and achieve to potentially make a difference in their pay.
  • Make sure to discuss issues such as career movements, performance evaluations, and performance goals.

STEP 4: Address any questions the team member may have.

NOTE: Remember the following:

  • Be clear with the employee that you are not promising any future pay raises
  • Clearly outline how the performance you described can be used when and if increases are made.
