Career Development Network 

Time: < 30 Minutes 

STEP 1: Identify the career opportunities, skills and capabilities you would like to explore and/or build over the next 12 months.

STEP 2: Based on the career opportunities, skills and capabilities you would like to build, identify two individuals who can provide information on your career interests, or provide coaching to you on at least one of the identified skills and capabilities.

Use the following to identify who can help you:

• A Position Above You…Who do you know in a position above you who has done something in the past or is doing something now that you would like to do?
• A Peer…Do you know a PEER who has done something in the past or is doing something now that you would like to do?
• A Direct Report…Do you know someone who WORKS FOR YOU who has done something in the past or is doing something now that you would like to do?
• A New Hire…Do you know a NEW EMPLOYEE who has done something in the past or is doing something now that you would like to do?

STEP 3: Record the names of the individuals on the Career Development Network worksheet, identifying the specific career opportunity, skill or capability with which the individual can provide you information or coaching. 

STEP 4: Share your Career Development Network with your manager. Determine if any changes should be made. Outline how you will approach the selected individuals.

STEP 5: Schedule dedicated time to discuss career opportunities or receive direct coaching from the individuals within your Career Development Network.
