STEP 1: Identify a new idea you have that would make a real impact on your personal success or relates to a passion or hobby of yours. You may have an idea for a product improvement, a new product, a way to make your life easier, or an idea to positively impact something/someone you care about. Using the Very Powerful Person worksheet, capture the following:
- Briefly describe your idea
- Identify the benefits it will create
- Outline what will happen if your idea is NOT implemented
- Describe the basic steps required to implement your idea
STEP 2: Identify the “Very Powerful Person” within your life to share your idea with. “The Very Powerful Person” you select may be:
- A person who directly impacts the person, process, or current situation you want to improve
- A person who can help support you and help bring your idea to the right people
- A person with a lot of decision-making authority or knowledge on the topic
STEP 3: Contact the “Very Powerful Person” to schedule 10 minutes of time to present your idea. When making the request for time be sure to note the following:
- Identify what inspired you/what sparked your interest in this idea
- Share that you only want 10 minutes of time—no more
- The purpose will be to present an idea you believe will make a significant impact on something or someone you care about
STEP 4: Using the Very Powerful Person worksheet, summarize your idea into a 10-minute presentation, highlighting the key points outlined in the Idea Overview. Practice delivering your 10-minute presentation out loud three times. Make any necessary adjustments and refinements as needed.
* Remember, you only have 10 minutes—it is critical you respect the “Very Powerful Person’s” time.
Your presentation should be CONCISE, SPECIFIC, and PERSUASIVE.
