Career Exploration 

PURPOSE: Meet with your manager or a leader you trust to discuss the various career options available to you, as well as possible timeframes for your next career move.

Time: < 1 Hour 

STEP 1: Identify and record the following on the Career Exploration worksheet:

  1. The available career options within the organization based on my skills and capabilities, and desired career path
  2. For each career option, identify the type of movement option the career move offers (e.g., up, cross-functional assignment, moving to a new functional area, etc.)
  3. Determine the probable timeframe of each career move

STEP 2: Review the career options identified and determine if they include various movement options.  If not, what additional career moves are you forgetting? Is there a mentorship available? What about a job swap or rotational program?

STEP 3: Select the career movement options best suited for you based on career goals, current skills and capabilities, and movement timeframe.

STEP 4: Identify the actions you should take to achieve the desired career move and see if your manager or another senior leader can support you in the process.
