STEP 1: Don’t fall into the same pattern every weekend. If you usually decompress after a long weekend by doing the usual weekend activities such as sleeping in, doing chores around the house and watching TV, instead look for fun events, festivals or activities near your home that you and your family/friends might enjoy. This could be taking a drive to the mountains, taking a cooking class or checking out exciting events happening in your city. Check prices, location, weather, vendors, etc. to see if it will be a good environment. Don’t let the novelty of these events intimidate you—you will likely be pleasantly surprised by how much fun you end up having together.
STEP 2: Reach out to friends and family to see if they would be interested in joining you or buy tickets and surprise them. This is a great way to make a new experience feel less intimidating. Bring your camera along to make memories and enjoy your time with your loved ones as you grow and push yourselves out of your comfort zones.
STEP 3: Be prepared! Throw in a sweatshirt, a pair of shorts, an umbrella, and cash for parking just in case. At the end of the event, share your favorite parts of the experience with those who were with you. Then make it a point to try something new one weekend a month.
