Time: < 30 Minutes
STEP 1: Take a day or two to recognize or jot down when you are working, checking your phone, or are otherwise tethered to your phone. You might also ask loved ones when they notice that you are on your phone, as they are observing you and may see times that you don’t recognize or recall. Initially it is helpful to set a firm deadline each day that you will stop working altogether.
STEP 2: Set specific times when you don’t work or don’t look at your phone. Enlist your family or friends to hold you to it, as it has likely become a habit that you aren’t even aware of.
STEP 3: This will give you additional time to be present in your relationships, to do something for yourself or others, or simply decrease the amount of noise in your brain. These are all good things.
STEP 4: Once you recognize the time that you are saving, make a list of things you’d like to do with your newfound time that will be beneficial to you in your JOURNEYing Guide. Finding the right work-life balance is challenging for most people and will likely be something that evolves over time. Remember to be patient with yourself and not to give up. Your stress levels (and relationships) will thank you.
