PURPOSE: Think about something that you love to do near your home and look for other people with similar interests to enjoy it with you. Expand on an activity/hobby that you already enjoy.

Time: 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Research activities, crafts, workshops or events that are near your work or home area that interest you. Like to garden? Look for others gardening in your neighborhood or through your local nursery. Like to run 5ks, enjoy a yoga class, or events at a health food store? Strike up a conversation with others while you’re there…you might meet a new friend or even a potential love interest. Reach out to friends via Facebook, check community websites, event boards, or the bulletin board at your local library or coffee shop. If your city has a local newspaper or other publication, there will likely be myriad opportunities to meet people or attend events that you enjoy.

STEP 2: Check your availability. See if friends are interested in attending with you or branch out and go it alone. The key to this step is to make this new activity as easy to attend as possible. Select a time that you don’t have anything else going on and bring along an easy-going friend to accompany you to help alleviate stress you might feel, as well as to enjoy this new experience with you.

STEP 3: Attend the activity and talk to others while you are there. Strike up conversations with people around you so you can learn more about them, their interests, and more about the activity at hand. Enjoy the Journey as you make new friends and new memories.
