Take a Load Off

PURPOSE: Get professional help to clean your house on those occasions when you have too much on your plate.

Time: 1 Hour

STEP 1: Ask for referrals or research house cleaning companies in the area. Many times, you’ll get some great referrals by asking your social media friends who they use. Refer to your monthly budget and determine how much you are willing and able to spend on a cleaning service—many companies will offer various levels of services from basic cleaning to in-depth cleaning at different price points. You can also control how frequent your services will be—bi-weekly, monthly, etc.

STEP 2: Call a couple of referrals and tell them what you want to have done in your home. They will likely ask to come see it before giving you a quote. Contact a few companies before making your decision to ensure that you are getting the right fit for your needs.

STEP 3: Meet with them at your home for their assessment visit. Walk them around and let them know what you need. Ask if they’ll be using your cleaning supplies or their own. Make sure you feel comfortable with them.

STEP 4: Hide confidential papers or anything of real value. You likely won’t have a problem, but this will give you peace of mind. Ask for a contract or any papers the company provides for accountability and theft protection.

STEP 5: While they clean, take this time to catch up on something you’ve needed to get done. You have 2–4 extra hours to be productive or relax. Take a deep breath and feel the energy of your clean home. It looks great, feels great, and is a great motivator to keep it clean.
