Time: < 30 Minutes
STEP 1: In a team meeting, team members share one skill or capability they would like to build to help them achieve their individual career goals. When sharing the desired skill or capability, team members should:
- Describe the skill or capability
- Outline how the skill or capability will help the team member achieve success
- Share the team member’s current capabilities and desired expertise
STEP 2: For each team member, the team should spend five minutes brainstorming different development actions the team member can take to build his or her capabilities. When brainstorming remember to:
- Stick to the time limit—it will be easy to go past the five-minute time limit
- Do not evaluate ideas—this is not the time to say if an idea is good or bad, no matter how crazy the idea
- Record every idea
STEP 3: After the team meeting, each team member reviews his or her “brainstormed” list and identifies the action(s) he or she will implement to build the desired skill or capability.
STEP 4: In a follow-up meeting, team members should share what actions they chose to implement, describe how it is going, and if desired, ask the team for additional help.
