Time: < 1 Hour
STEP 1: Call a family meeting to brainstorm the top 3–5 critical skills or knowledge all family members must have to successfully live their most incredible lives. Examples could include open communication, honesty, time management, planning ahead, and emotional intelligence.
STEP 2: For each skill, work together to rate the family’s overall level of performance.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how successful is our family regarding this specific skill?
1 = We struggle to practice and promote this skill in our daily lives
10 = We are confident in our abilities to practice and promote this skill in our daily lives
STEP 3: For each skill, identify your family’s current resources that are available to help you build your capabilities to successfully practice and promote the skill (i.e. setting a positive example as parents, family dinners to encourage constant communication, etc.).
STEP 4: Based on your family’s current level of performance and available resources, determine the following:
- What skills or capabilities do we need to build first?
- What additional resources do we need to develop to ensure all family members have the knowledge and skills needed for personal success?
- What actions do we need to take to help build the needed knowledge and skills?
