Game Night

PURPOSE: Game nights are a great way to make memories, increase communication (and laughter!) and build relationships with your significant other, family, or someone you’re interested in. Establishing a game night every week or two will create a distraction-free zone to laugh and spend quality time in life’s journey with those important to you.

Time: 1 Hour

STEP 1: Determine the best night for a game night. To make it happen, talk to everyone who you want to participate and figure out what evening works best for them. Schedule it on a night where you have no other plans or responsibilities so you can fully engage in the games and quality time.

STEP 2: Once you know which evening you’re having game night, figure out which games you want to play! Take a look at what games you already own, and if you want some new ones check with your neighbors and friends to see if you could from them.  You can also check out local stores to see if  there are any new games you’d like to purchase.  Just remember, it’s not about the quantity of games played, it’s about the quality of the experience and the laughter involved.

If kids are involved, let them decide the games to play, & what meals and dessert will be served—if someone has a birthday that week or another celebration, let them choose! If you have more than one child, consider having them draw straws or take turns each week to decide which one gets to determine games and food options. Allowing your children to make decisions will increase their engagement and excitement to play!

STEP 3: Enjoy a great night of food, fun and laughter!  If you’re spending it you’re your kids, thank them for making it a great night. If you’re spending the night with a significant other, focus on the laughter, love and playfulness involved in the experience. The consistency of having a regularly scheduled game night gives everyone something to look forward to each week. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to strengthen bonds between friends and family!
