SOLUTION:

Take the First Step

PURPOSE: Take the first step toward something you’d like to do, somewhere you’d like to go, a hobby you’d like to try, or a habit you’d like to break. Make some adjustments to your schedule to start something new.

Time: < 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Write down your pro/con list – the benefits and obstacles of starting this new venture or practice. This will help you see why it’s important, as well as what may hinder your success. Once complete, rate on a scale of 1-10 on how important it is for you to begin. If it is a 6 or under, it may not be important enough (or feasible) for you to begin at this time. If it is a 7 or more, then it is of primary importance and you need to make it happen for yourself.

STEP 2: Look at the cons on your list and see how you can overcome these obstacles. Do you need a coach or accountability partner to keep you on track? Do you need training or a personal trainer to get started? Do you need to detox your pantry? Whatever it is, make a list of the resources you need.

STEP 3: Find the help you need. Talk to friends, social media networks, and co-workers for advice and suggestions.

STEP 4: Develop SMART goals around achieving your dream. Goals are what make dreams become reality.

STEP 5: Take. That. First. Step. It may be the hardest and you may need to remind yourself regularly of the benefits of making this change. Every day, start your morning by thinking about what great change and success will come with disciplining yourself to continue.

STEP 6: If you need accountability, find a coach, accountability partner, personal trainer, dietician, or friend who can support you.
