SOLUTION:

Do the Research

PURPOSE: Research different organizations that help your cause to see which ones best represent how you want to support them.

Time: < 1 Hour

STEP 1: Identify an interest that you’d like to support with your time, money or both. There are often multiple organizations that support a larger cause, yet each one will have its own nuances that will differentiate it from the others. Learn about each one to see how they are all connected and decide if there is an aspect of the cause that you find particularly engaging.

STEP 2: Google organizations in your area of interest. Review each of them and take notes, recording any questions that come up.

STEP 3: Call the ones that you are interested in and ask for more details, (i.e. do you have a local chapter, what percentage of my donations go directly to those in need, what upcoming events do you have, how can volunteers get involved, etc.).

STEP 4: Once you’ve determined the ones that you are most interested in, schedule a tour of their location. This will give you a great opportunity to see if it’s a fit, how you can help and what kind of people you would be volunteering with, as well as, get a feel for the day to day operations.

STEP 5: If you feel at home with the organization and environment, get connected and schedule your first volunteering opportunity. Share it with others so more people can be aware of this wonderful cause.
