Weekly Workout

PURPOSE: Develop a weekly workout routine that you can see every day to increase your chances of making it a habit. Consider a form of physical activity that looks FUN to you.

Time: 1 Hour

STEP 1: Select a weekly or bi-weekly class and print out a schedule to hang on your refrigerator. You might consider a dance class, rock climbing, horseback riding, yoga, or kick boxing. Refer to the class schedule when making other commitments and note when “open studio” hours are in case you want to practice outside of class. Approach whatever you choose as purely fun and be mindful to not think of it as working out. This will allow you to enjoy it to the fullest with minimal feelings of resentment or obligation.

STEP 2: If you are engaging in physical activity, it is important to think about working different body parts each day so you don’t overdo one area and neglect another. Review the types of exercises that your class promotes so you can be mindful to engage the parts of the body that you want. Again, remember to approach this class first and foremost as fun, and then as a workout.

STEP 3: Once you determine your weekly routine, the next step is getting up and making it happen. Schedule it on your calendar and put your workout clothes and shoes either right beside the bed, or in your car so they will be close and available.

STEP 4: If it will help with either accountability or making it more fun and exciting, invite a friend to go with you. They can encourage and push you during those initial classes and can share in the fun and enjoyment of a new hobby.

STEP 5: Reward yourself for making it happen. Keep up the good work; you’ll be so glad and thankful that you did.
