Time: < 30 Minutes
STEP 1: Create a dialogue with your team or manager to discuss your “best work”. During this dialogue be sure to:
- Identify the your “best work”
- Outline how your “best work” can help others
- Discuss the amount of time your may have to help others
STEP 2: Based on this dialogue, identify the projects in which you may be able to help by becoming a project SME. Use the questions below to help determine how you may be able to serve as a SME to other team members or projects. Note: A project SME would not consult on all aspects of a project. The project SME’s help may be as simple as brainstorming ideas or describing past experiences, or it could involve taking on a role within a project. It will be up you and the project team to determine what role the project SME will play.
- What current team projects need the skills or capabilities provided by your “best work”?
- Are there individuals who could benefit from your “best work”?
- Is there a project team currently trying to solve a particular problem that could benefit from your “best work”?
STEP 3: If an opportunity exists for you to act as a project SME, introduce yourself to the project team or individual who could use the help. Share how you think you can help, and how much time you can provide. Work with the project team or individual to determine if it makes sense for you to act as a project SME for the identified issues.
