Skill Building Exercises

PURPOSE: Pick a new project, hobby, or task that will give you the opportunity to practice and build a new skill or capability that you have always wanted to have.

Time: < 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Fill out the Skill Building Assignments worksheet. Include your name as well as those of any family or friends who also want to build new skills. This can be a great exercise for the whole family or for your team at work.

STEP 2: Ask yourself what are some skills or capabilities you would like to focus on and build over time? Take some time to consider what would serve you or enrich your life and commit to growing those skills in your life.

STEP 3: In the next two months, you and anyone joining you in this journey should keep your eye(s) out for projects or opportunities that would build one of the skills or capabilities you each would like to develop.

STEP 4: Once a new project or opportunity is identified, you and/or the other people must choose whether to accept the opportunity. If you say “yes”, record the project or assignment on the Skill Building Assignments worksheet.

STEP 5: After you’ve learned a new skill, share with others. Then pick something else to learn or improve upon. Learning is a lifelong endeavor.
