SOLUTION:

Game Night

PURPOSE: Establish a weekly game night as your children grow up, or with your friends as an amazing reconnection point. Game nights are a great way to make memories, increase communication (and laughter) and build relationships with your family or friends.

Time: 1 - 2 Hours

STEP 1: Determine the best night for a weekly game night. To make it stick, consistency is key. Talk to your friends or family about having a game night—if they express interest in the idea, go a step further and discuss what games everyone is interested in. An easy way to start out is with a deck of playing cards or dominoes and see what games each person knows… it will be a fun and dynamic night as some teach and some learn. Consider having snacks and beverages available and finalize the timeline and logistics of the evening.

STEP 2: If kids are involved, let them decide the games to play and what meals and dessert will be served—if someone has a birthday that week or another celebration, let them choose. If you have more than one child, consider having them draw straws or take turns each week to decide who gets to determine games and food options.

STEP 3: Enjoy a great night of food, fun, and laughter. Thank your family or friends for making it a great night. The consistency of having a regularly scheduled game night gives everyone something to look forward to each week. Consider letting other family members help you with food or game set up so as to extend family time and to spread the work out evenly and fairly. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to strengthen bonds between friends and family.
