Take a Hike 

PURPOSE: Take a hike on a new route, get fresh air and exercise, and potentially discover a beautiful new area you never knew existed. Have a pet? Bring them along to share in the new sights, smells, and adventures.

Time: 1 Hour

STEP 1Look for new parks, trails, or areas you can hike to change up the usual routine. Ask friends or family members where they enjoy hiking and consider inviting them along to show you around.

STEP 2: Once you determine the new hiking location, let a loved one know where you’ll be in case of emergency. Bring your cell phone along just in case…that way you’ll have a way to take pictures of the beautiful and exciting things you experience in this new area and maybe take a few selfies to share.

STEP 3: Take note of what you see, hear, and smell. Engage your senses to provide you with a well-rounded sensory experience that will turn a normal run-of-the-mill hike into a memorable adventure. Enjoy the scenery and take note of new things that entice you to return or challenge yourself with a more difficult trail.

STEP 4: Try 2-3 different routes and rotate them so you don’t get bored. If you live in a particularly eco-diverse area, challenge yourself to try a new route each week, or drive a little further to experience an area with a different geography from what you are used to seeing.

STEP 5: Invite someone to go with you and bring a frisbee or football. Pack a picnic and make a day out of it.
