STEP 1: Provide the Career Options Worksheet to your team member (or share with your manager) and discuss the potential career options within the organization.
Determine what actions must be taken to support the career option. Options would include staying in the current role, an upward movement, and doing something different.
STEP 2: Talk through each of the three career options and the actions that are required to implement each option.
STEP 3: Determine which career option is best for the individual right now.
STEP 4: Summarize the next steps both you and the individual (or you and your manager) must take to help the individual be successful.
STEP 5: Be sure to touch base with the individual periodically to see if they have been able to successfully implement the actions to support their career option.
