The Strong, Silent Type

PURPOSE: Turn off the noise. Find a quiet place and time to achieve a restful mindset so you can reflect, think deeply, and understand how to connect the experiences happening in your life from a holistic perspective.

Time: < 30 Minutes

STEP 1: Determine when you can take a couple of days (or at least a couple of hours) to simply BE. Think about life, what’s working, what’s not and make time to consider what could be.

A few benefits that you will enjoy from your quiet reprieve:

  • A new perspective on life
  • Decreased stress
  • More grounded and in touch with yourself
  • An ability to acknowledge things you’ve been suppressing or postponing and decide what to do with them
  • A chance to get outside and be with nature… on a walk, hike, at a park, or at a silent retreat.

STEP 2: Once you know when you’ll be taking your reprieve, let your friends, family and co-workers know that you will be unreachable during that time and who to contact in your absence.

STEP 3: Make any arrangements necessary for your time away: childcare, pet care, etc.

STEP 4: Turn off your phone, laptop and anything else that can distract you. You might keep a pen and pad of paper handy to capture thoughts as they come to you. No telling what might come up for you!

STEP 5: If you simply cannot make time for an extended quiet time, try to carve out 15-30 minutes a day without any distractions to focus on different areas of your life. Even breaking it down into bite size pieces will help you tremendously.
